Business School Accreditation
Cambridge Dictionary defines “accreditation” as
the fact of being officially recognized, accepted, or approved of, or the act of officially recognizing, accepting, or approving of something.
There are many international bodies that develop, design and regulate the “standards”. When such standards are met by business schools, these international bodies accredit the programs delivered by them. Such accreditations add a great deal of value to their degrees as it shows:
- Assurance of higher quality,
- A positive signal to employers,
- Status, and
- Influence at the international level.
Therefore, higher the accreditation, more highly regarded the Business degree.
The top 3 largest and most influential business school accreditation are:

Triple Accredited Business Schools:
Business Schools which receive all 3 accreditations – AACSB, AMBA, and EQUIS, are referred as “triple crown” accreditation. Many top business schools of the world like Harvard, Stanford and Columbia do not have a triple crown as it has to fulfill the requirements of these 3 international bodies.
For example, EQUIS differs from the AMBA and the AACSB. EQUIS agency standards are based on the quality of the business school, but it also considers the school’s level of internationalization, which is not a standard for the AMBA and the AACSB.
Similarly, AMBA requires business schools only select candidates with minimum three years of work experience which is not the minimum entry requirement in many schools. Thus, triple accreditation is limited to some universities.
